Hebrews 6:1-2 “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.”
“The deeper life, what is it and how can I enter into it? One of the great problems, even of the early Church was that of the static Christian. It is one of the great problems today. i think it is a problem even greater than that of getting people converted. The problem of the static Christian, how to get a Christian interested into being more than the average run-of-the-mill type of believer that you see everywhere. So many of us become or are static. The static Christian is one who is delayed in his progress. Paul said “what does hinder you, you did run well but now you are hindered.” Thus the progress is stunted and delayed and the growth stunted.
Then there is the lack of moral dynamics which every Christian ought to know.
Now this is the static Christian and I believe that if we will listen you will hear God speaking “He who hath an ear to hear let him hear what the Spirit says unto the Church.” And I believe if we hear what the Spirit says our day we will hear God say “Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them.”
I believe we’ll hear the Spirit say “Let us go on into perfection. Let us go on beyond repentance for past sins. Let us go on beyond forgiveness and cleansing from sins. Let us go on beyond the impartatiomn of divine life.”
Lets be sure however we get these first things settled first to the point of absolute assurance. There can be no deeper life until there has been life. There can be no progress in the way until we are in the way. There can be no growth until there has been birth.
All efforts toward the deeper life can only bring disappointment unless we have first settled the matter of repentance from dead works and forgiveness of sins and impartation of divine life and commitment.” A. W. Tozer The Deeper Life, sermon pt 1
“The first thing we all need is forgiveness. And thank God, because the blood of Jesus Christ was shed for my sins I am forgiven. There is no need to argue about that anymore. It’s the initial step. When I acknowledge my sins, when I confess it, when I admit I deserve nothing but punishment, I am told that Christ has born it for me, my sins are forgive, I have forgiveness and reconciliation as a free gift.” Martyn Lloyd-Jones, sermon, Born Of The Spirit,
I sought the Lord, and afterward I knew
He moved my soul to seek Him, seeking me.
It was not I that found, O Savior true;
No, I was found of Thee.
Thou didst reach forth Thy hand and mine enfold;
I walked and sank not on the storm vexed sea.
’Twas not so much that I on Thee took hold,
As Thou, dear Lord, on me.
I find, I walk, I love, but oh, the whole
Of love is but my answer, Lord, to Thee!
For Thou were long beforehand with my soul,
Always Thou lovest me.

“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song. He also is become my salvation.: (Isaiah 12:2)
“If I had my way, I would declare a moratorium on public preaching of ‘the plan of salvation’ in America for one to two years. Then I would call on everyone who has use of the airwaves and the pulpits to preach the holiness of God, the righteousness of God, and the Law of God until sinners would cry out, ‘What must we do to be saved?” Then I would take them off in a corner and whisper the gospel to them. Don’t use John 3:16. Such drastic action is needed because we have a gospel hardened generation of sinners by telling them how to be saved before they have any understanding why they need to be saved.” Paris Reidhead
